Citizenship Ceremony @ AMK GRC-Sengkang West SMC / 宏茂桥及盛港西公民宣誓仪式
Presented 200 citizenship certificates and pink ICs this morning to new citizens living in Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West SMC. I encouraged them to make the effort to integrate into our society, to make friends with other Singaporeans and adapt to our norms and way of life. A few are already volunteering in our grassroots, immersing themselves into our community.
Quite many have Singaporean spouses, and have lived in Singapore for many years. I think for them the adjustment will be easier. For their children, it will be easier still. I asked one teenager where he came from, and he promptly (and correctly) answered “Ang Mo Kio”! :) - LHL”
欢迎新公民，希望他们入乡随俗
两百位宏茂桥集选区和盛港区居民今早宣誓成为新公民。我出席了这个简单但庄严的宣誓仪式，表达对新公民的热烈欢迎。他们是经过慎重的考虑，才作出这个艰难和重大的抉择。
我希望他们顺利地融入新加坡这个大家庭。他们的口音可能改不了，但是应该尽力适应这里的生活习惯，文化习俗和价值观念，做到入乡随俗，进而在这片土地上扎下深根。我也吁请新公民好好爱护新加坡；我对他们说：发展它、建设它、捍卫它！
